North Ronaldsay Old Beacon
Watercolour
The northermost of the Orkney Islands, North Ronaldsay now only has approximately 60 permanent inhabitants. The old oil-burning lighthouse on the northern tip was constructed in 1789 by Thomas Smith and Robert Stephenson. It’s now in some disrepair; the bulb-shaped stone at the top of this curious pepperpot replaces the original lamp.
